Your next steps

diy_books_400x465Reminder: this boot camp works as a DIY. This means I don’t organize it myself, YOU organize it with the rest of the team. My friends offered a place, I will provide the content and offer all my experience, you do the rest. This will contribute to building the group coherence and check everyone’s autonomy. You shouldn’t see it as a ‘yet another personal development’ workshop.

So…

First read and follow the steps explained in “Evolutionary Boot Camps“. It will tell you how to apply and qualify. This includes a one-to-one conversation and official agreement on my end.

Then, and only then, you can officially confirm your participation in this boot camp. Just send me an email or call me.

The boot camp will happen if we have a minimum of 12 confirmed attendees by Feb. 15, 2016. In case we haven’t reached this number, then we will cancel. So, don’t take your plane tickets before, unless you absolutely want to visit Bali no matter what 🙂

The boot camp will not accept more than 25 participants, by order of confirmation.

Enjoy the journey!

Evolutionary Boot Camps

Evolutionary Boot Camps offer a training space for humanonauts who want to pioneer the next humanity. This project has grown inside me for the past 3-4 years. Now time has come…

NOTE: the first Evolutionary Boot Camp will take place in Bali, April 11-17 2016. Details here.

A little bit of context

Our species evolves, so does the way society organizes itself. And so does collective intelligence. We transition from thousands of years of pyramidal collective intelligence (top-down, centralized, market and money based…) towards holomidal collective intelligence (distributed, local and global, based on mutualist economy…). More and more people pioneer new ways to exist individually and collectively, from energy to education, from science to healthcare, from ecology to food (as expressed in trailer The New Republics).

Levels of consciousnessOn that same evolutionary wave, many people take the journey of personal growth. Sociology offers a precise scrutiny of this evolution, for instance through the rise of cultural creatives (Ray & Anderson). Maps of stages of consciousness (Wilber, Aurobindo, Gebser, Graves) show also a clear rise of consciousness on the planet, leading to more and more people wanting to interconnect and build societies and organizations that reflect their being and their values. We can also see a shift from rational societies to transrational societies (they include rationality, but transcend it to go beyond its limitations).

Individual evolution doesn’t provide many clues on how to build an enlightened society. Many people have pioneered a specific sector in the doing side, like permaculture, ecology, sustainable economies, renewable energy, software, schools, etc. But how do we put the pieces together? How do we design thriving societies from that? How do we activate individual evolution in making evolved collectives?

In my trips around the world, I see the same pattern reproducing again and again: evolved people keep reproducing the same old society together, and they suffer from it. It operates like if some hidden old social DNA kept the old society alive, with its limitations, regardless the work on personal growth and the breakthroughs in external technologies. Something seems to operate independently.

After years of research, I came to realize that the “we” that operates through the individual hasn’t evolved very much. Spiritual traditions have focused on liberating the “I” –the self– as a primary condition for liberating the We. Yet they haven’t addressed that part of the “we” –society– that perpetuates itself through the I, now time has come to take the challenge.

For instance, by writing this page in English, I use a collective tool: language. All languages contain multiple layers of archaic forms of consciousness by the very way they describe reality. They perpetuate the use of old maps and archaic, if not violent, forms of consciousness. Evolving language certainly evolves the we.

Another example: conventional money. This very old technology supports pyramidal collective intelligence very well. Because money concentrates itself in the hands of a few, it serves societies that need to rely on competition, market based economies, centralized power, i.e. pyramidal collective intelligence. It doesn’t serve holomidal collective intelligence, based on distributed networks and mutualist economy. Shifting to such an economy requires we build a technology better than money. A technology that makes us see integral wealth, a language of flows. It will evolve the We and its consciousness in a magnitude that no one can imagine today.

One last example (among so many others): social codes. Social codes never exist randomly. They have a purpose. They keep the societal structure alive and protect it. For instance standard conversations don’t leave space for silence, deep breath, meditation. We “take the floor”, we want people to listen to what we have to say, or push. Because of their speed, conventional conversations make us operate on automatic pilot. They protect our integrity and they mostly operate from the mental. Wisdom driven conversations and transrational based conversations, require a whole other set of social codes to support them. The 6 agreements that include a deep breath before speaking, for instance, offer an architecture that support the emergence of wisdom in conversations.

For years I have given 3 days seminars on collective intelligence. They offered an initiation based on an integral approach involving body, mind and spirit. I have trained hundreds of persons to evolve their body, their language, the way they use technology or see the world. It has contributed to spreading and growing awareness and knowledge about this new discipline. Although I kept saying and writing that one shouldn’t attend these seminars for personal development, most people kept coming for this motive. Many of them faced a “transition crisis” and wanted to invent a new life for themselves, clean the bad old contracts they had with the conventional world, and embody another world via their own choices and lifestyle.

Noble motives, but not sufficient.

Pioneering the next society and the next consciousness requires much more than a personal therapeutic shift. It requires the spirit of an fierce explorer giving 100% of his/her energy and attention. To make a long story short, although collective intelligence seminars served lot’s of people, they didn’t contribute to train the fierce pioneers that the world to come needs.

So, late 2011, I stopped giving seminars. I realized I had to invent a better and more powerful architecture for these spaces, evolve my communication, and become super selective. This question really helped me: what kind of design does it take to train ourselves as humanonauts of the next evolutionary leap?

Just think of an astronaut who prepares himself/herself to travel to a new planet or galaxy, and you get the real picture.

From Astronaut to Humanonaut

Imagine you dream to travel into space to discover and inhabit new universes. Because of their own physics and topology, these virgin worlds offer many possibilities to reinvent life. New civilizations can grow there from a clean start. You feel an irresistible attraction for the journey. You want to become an astronaut who will pioneer these worlds.

"Sometimes George thinks he is an astronaut"Could you do that on your spare time? Would reading books on personal development do the job? Of course not. You know that becoming an astronaut will ask for every single piece of your will, your courage, your attention, your energy and your time. You will have to leave everything in order to commit to the journey. If you have a family, then you will need to make an agreement with them so they support you unconditionally.

Before getting into the spacecraft, you will follow a long and extensive preparation –physical, mental, psychological and, in many regards, spiritual. You will learn how to make the right decisions in unknown and sometimes risky environments, you will prepare yourself to face every possible scenario and provide appropriate responses, you will master zillions of techniques and technologies. You will train yourself to keep cool in situations that would drive anyone crazy or frozen by fear. Although this training and journey may terrify many people, you love it because it makes you thrive. You made your dharma of it.

Becoming a humanonaut that explores and embodies the next humanity requires the very same intensity of training and commitment as an astronaut.

Boot Camps for Humanonauts

So, what will we do in evolutionary boot camps? I guess you have the concept now: train and play. These boot camps will give you an overview of the journey you can take to prepare yourself for the next humanity. No one in these boot camps will tell you what you should do in the future and the kind of person you should become. You will train with other fellows so you can build great capacities to invent the future.

What?

  • We will learn the fundamentals of collective intelligence and the language for social engineering.
  • We will contemplate the arrow of evolution that manifests via our individual and collective consciousness.
  • We will envision possible worlds that want to come into existence.
  • We will intensively train our bodies for some hours everyday so that everything we learn or unlearn becomes fully embodied.
  • We will explore new technologies and see how we can hack them or design them in order to provide the right infrastructure for the world we want.
  • We will explore how the old social DNA perpetuates itself through language, food, social codes, technology, time, culture, the body, the doxa.
  • We will practice new architectures for new social DNA through language, food, social codes, etc.
  • We will see how we create architectures that support higher forms of consciousness, individually and collectively.

Evolutionary boot camps will last for 7 full days. It doesn’t include arrival and departure, they must happen the days before and the day after the event.

Can we learn all these things in just 7 days? Of course not. Didn’t I write that becoming a humanonaut requires a 24/7 involvement? However these 7 days will give you enough tools and context to decide whether you want to embark on the full time journey for yourself. Not for me or any specific organization. For yourself.

What will come next? I have no idea. You will decide. Everyone will decide. Maybe a movement will emerge. Or a global boot camp. Or nothing. I have no agenda, I invite you to trust the process, as I do.

The week will have 2 parts:

  1. Days 1-4: intensive training, as described above.
  2. Days 5-7: we continue the training and the group has open spaces to reflect on the “what next?”, for you, for others.

Who?

Attending an evolutionary boot camp means you match and agree with every criteria listed below:

  • You fill in this form to explain why you want to attend.
  • You have a super physical condition. I mean super. Not as an international athlete, but you should consider running 10km, doing 20 push ups or jumping from 2m high a natural thing. You may have a good level in some sports (martial arts, swimming, rock climbing, marathon, dance, anything…). Intensive training hours don’t scare you.
  • You don’t smoke, drink, or do drugs.
  • You consider yourself as a free person and a free spirit.
  • You have developed artistic skills — music, drawing, writing, filming, circus… anything.
  • You have a strong rational, scientific, intuitive and curious mind.
  • You have solved your main psychological and existential issues. Boot camps will not serve as a space for therapy, healing or just personal development.
  • You experience a deep spiritual journey grounded by a spiritual practice (yoga, meditation, martial arts, shamanism…).
  • You at least eat vegetarian, if not vegan.
  • You agree that during this week you will eat raw organic vegan food.
  • You have a skillful practice of the Internet, such as social media, coding, design, architecture…
  • You have a free life as well as a free spirit. You haven’t entangled yourself in heavy duty life style such as a family life, heavy work position, a house to pay for the next 20 years, etc.
  • Breaking old social codes also includes exploring other possibilities with the body, such as nakedness. You feel okay with it.
  • If people tell you that Boot Camps hide a secret sect under the control of a guru, and you fear this for real, please don’t register. It means you haven’t built enough autonomy to trust your own judgment and to experience that freedom depends exclusively on you.
  • You speak fluent English — I mean fluent, not school level.
  • You agree that I will coach you during this whole week and you trust my leadership on this. At least for a week.
  • If I see you as a possible candidate for the boot camp, you agree we have a one-to-one interview so I can sense your deep motivation and you can ask all the questions you want.

How?

I will not organize evolutionary boot camps myself. You will organize them, from finding the place to calculating the costs, to dealing with logistics (accommodation, food, cooking, travel…), to distributing everyone’s role and setting up the support system. It demonstrates your capacity to make things happen. It also makes clear that we don’t make yet another class for personal development or spiritual tourism. Boot camps belong to the DIY philosophy.

We begin with an interview together. We will get to know each other. I will ask about your motivation, leadership and the role you want to take in setting up the event. You can ask all the questions you want.

These boot camps will work with groups of 12-30 people.

Where?

Tiny EarthBoot camps can take place anywhere on the planet. From Patagonia, to Central Manhattan, to the heart of India, to Hogwarts.

Boot camps should take place in spaces that embody the values we hold: ecological, beautiful, spiritually grounded.

The place should have the capacity to host daytime activities for everyone — from indoor/outdoor physical play (depends on the climate), to computer work, to meals, to meditation circles. If the place can’t host everyone during the night, then the close neighborhood should offer complementary facilities.

The place should have a very good internet connection.

How much?

Boot camps rely on the gift economy. It means:

  • I offer you my work, my experience and my time. I only ask the group to support my travel expense + food + accommodation.
  • In the end you can make a conscious gift. Not as a debt or duty, but from gratitude if you experience it. A gift to me, or to anyone else in the world. The philosophy consists in keeping the chain of kindness alive.
  • On top of your travel expense, you will likely have to invest some conventional money for accommodation and food, unless someone also offered these things to the boot camp.

Imagination and inner autonomy always help find practical solutions. For instance you may organize a conference for me that pays for the trip. Or your aunt has a chateau she wants you and your circle to enjoy. Or your best friend has extra air miles to spare. Just allow the flow to happen, and it will happen.

How to apply?

  1. Read carefully the criteria above and ask yourself whether they apply to you
  2. Fill in the registration form
  3. Have an interview with me if I select you as a potential candidate

If I don’t select you, don’t take it personally. It doesn’t say anything about your richness and potential as a human being. It just means you don’t match with the specific criteria for this specific boot camp. Maybe next time. Don’t give up if you really want it.

See you soon maybe!

Integral Play in Auroville

Starting Monday January the 5th and ending Wednesday Jan 21st 2015, I will serve two forms of specific and purposeful spaces: body plays and spaces for truth.

Body Plays

Supramental plasticity will enable it [body] to stand the attack of every hostile force which strives to pierce it: it will present no dull resistance to the attack but will be, on the contrary, so pliant as to nullify the force by giving way to it to pass off. — The Mother.

The body plays invite us to a liberating and joyful exploration of the body, of its conditioning and its potential. We use martial arts and the way of the warrior to contemplate and play with forces that animate us, pass through us, and sometimes destroy us.

Judo weight against opponentThe body plays aim to liberate our plasticity by exploring many situations involving aggressive and non aggressive forces that challenge the body, the mind and the spirit. Building a full-time, context independent, body equanimity, even in the midst of stressful situations, helps the descent of wisdom in the most cellular levels of the self.

Martial arts offer a perfect ground for self-exploration in a non-judgmental and playful way. The many exercises we do with partners help us understand ourselves, meet our edges and make the next step.

Come with sportswear or casual outfit, as we will play on the ground! No prerequisite level required, however you need a good physical shape. Come with an open, curious, joyful, engaged mind. And don’t forget your smile!

When and where?

Every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 7:30am – 9am behind the Unity Pavilion

Last body play: Wed. Jan. 21st.

Classes still happen even in case of heavy rain.

Spaces for Truth

In these spaces, I offer my years of spiritual practice to manifest truth, beyond the mental.

Maybe we will speak. Maybe we will remain silent. Maybe we will play in the body, or cry or laugh together, or dream new stories.

My commitment to truth will serve and guide the process. So will yours.

Don’t expect politeness and conventions. Come for fire, and possibilities.

And love.

In the moments of conversation, I will use the 6 agreements as our social architecture. Read them before coming.

I will speak only with your permission and invitation.

Vision from a rhinoceros

When and where?

Every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 10am – noon in the Unity Pavilion

Last space: Wed. Jan. 21st.

Spoken languages: English by default, French and Spanish if necessary.

One Breath Away from Evolving?

The I in the Mirror

Climate change breakthrough technology

We speak a lot about human evolution on the technical plane, shaped by a materialistic vision of reality. There comes one of the signatures of pyramidal collective intelligence in which we see and understand the world only through mental dualism.

Although most prospective analysis look relevant, they leave aside the inner evolution of the being that happens in parallel with the external evolution of the world. Did humankind invent fire that changed humankind, or did humankind invent humankind that invented fire? Same question with the writing, the printing press, flight, computers and the Internet. We cannot separate the inner subjective evolution with the outer objective evolution. Which one starts first? We get into the usual chicken and egg question. The subjective being that initiates and the objective being that creates mutually invent themselves in a set of self-reflecting miroirs.

Invisible architectures: where social DNA hides

Nevertheless, pyramidal collective intelligence invests massive amounts of money in technical evolution and everything that can materialize in a product or a service to sell.

Social DNA barcodingBy doing so, it leaves aside the inner evolution of the being. This evolution doesn’t necessarily need years of personal development. Sometimes we just have to change a little bit of code in the invisible architectures that shape us individually through the play of the collective. Invisible architectures apply to most of what defines our behavior: the way we see the world, the way we think or we make decisions. Ontology (the way we build reality through language), money, the doxa (belief system built on obscurantist assumptions), our social construct of time, food, social codes, each of them operate like invisible architectural spaces inside which we swim, like fishes in their bowl. Change one rule in any of these structures, and the whole consciousness can either regress or evolve. It works exactly like changing a gene in a physical body.

Social genetics has become one of my most important discoveries in collective intelligence. I will write, publish and communicate a lot on this theme in the future.

Evolve the We, Evolve the I

In front of 2,800 corporate leaders (Marseille, France, Oct. 2013), I tried to share this idea of evolution through the leverage of invisible architectures, through one example: breathing. I also wrote about this theme in the article United Air Ways. What would happen if, rather than interrupting each other and leaving no space for silence during our conversations, we decide to make a long deep breath before speaking? As you will see, we only change one social code (gene), and from there everything can change radically.

What impact did this talk have? Quite hard to say. My message has probably reached some people at a deeper level. I received a warm feedback, but it doesn’t say anything about how deeply it infuses. I could have shared a softer message, a little less evolutionary. Here I made this choice I make every time: speaking to large audiences doesn’t mean I will dull my talk so it can pass the filters of conventional thinking and receive an applause from everyone. Yes, part can land in everyone’s ear. For the deeper part, more essential, only people who want to overcome doxa, habits, and see through the veil, have a welcoming energy and can contemplate the content more deeply. In think than less than 1% do that.

In Written Words…

Here comes the transcript.

Caveman writing

Voice off: “As one leading the Collective Intelligence Research Institute, Jean-François Noubel can sense it, it is yet a weak signal that forecasts more radical transformations, and each of them begin with a deep personal work.

I have 12 minutes… 12 minutes to share my passion for evolution, for evolution of life, for evolution of consciousness, with the lenses of a new discipline, a new research discipline called collective intelligence. Collective intelligence tries to understand why, how, when we put a certain number of beings together, human beings, plants, animals, ecosystems, something happens, more or less effectively. Sometimes, a whole emerges, like a body, then something magical happens. Magical for the participants of course, magical also because a whole emerges, congruent, with a self-awareness, capable of evolving, moving… Here I mean anything like an enterprise that works well, or this band that we just saw singing, or a large company.
So I have 12 minutes to talk about this passion, at two levels, because on the one hand we have the technology, everything we can see, the objective external side, and on another hand we have a much more difficult aspect, much more invisible, I mean what will change inside of us.
In order to give us an idea about what will shift inside of us, I propose we do a small exercise together. Let me show you first…[deep and long breath]

A long breath.

Why don’t we try together? Ready? Let’s go!

[long collective breath]

Once more…

[long collective breath]

So, what connection? What connection with the evolution of our species?

I should first come back to collective intelligence, and to a travel back in time. We will speak about different forms of collective intelligence through evolution, and I will begin with this one, here, a school of fish… I could have shown an ant colony, or a flock of birds, or one of these big herds of buffalos. This form of collective intelligence, likely the first one that appeared on Earth, we call it “swarm collective intelligence”. One of its main traits, as you can see: the big numbers. Also at the individual level, the individual, in this configuration, doesn’t have a great margin of freedom. The fish follows the school, same thing in a big herd.

So here comes a question: in humanity, do we know it? Does this form of collective intelligence exist in humankind?
Well, not inherently but… sometimes. In a street protest or a big event. Here we have an extraordinary view of New York Marathon. But we know it too –maybe you experienced it no later than this morning– lot’s of people experience it everyday, like this. Indeed, when we drive our car, we don’t have a huge degree of freedom, however at the collective level, something incredible happens: a city fills up and empties every day! Imagine if a team had to plan that! Same with the ant colony.

So, this form of collective intelligence, has amazing capacities as a whole, but it also has limitations. Sometimes it can jam, entire herds can fall off the cliff, etc, etc.

Humans come from another place. They come from here: original collective intelligence. Precisely we call it this way, a tiny number of individuals. At some point it works in the opposite way compared to swarm collective intelligence because here we have a small number of individuals, but every individual has a strong individuation. Humans mostly exist in this configuration, the one we just saw on stage before my talk, wonderful! Let’s take a look at this jazz band. I love this picture because it shows how each and every musician lives his individuation. He knows his art, his instrument, and then he fully meets the others through himself.

It happens at two levels: horizontally, he perceives well what every other musician does, and vertically, he has a knowing of the whole, he can feel it, he can update himself because of it.

Indeed, this has a name: holopticism. I won’t say much about it now, only that it has a name.

The strength of this structure, in collective intelligence, we all know it. Super agile, learning, always adapting, it reconfigures, just take a look at a sports team that adapts itself to the unknown all the time.

But it also has its own limitations, two limitations : number, and distance. Of course, players need to play in a sensorial space where they can perceive each other, and see what everyone does.

So for humanity that has known this for a very long time, with villages, tribes, a crisis happened, a major systemic crisis, a global one at this time. Yes, when agriculture appeared, and when cities started to emerge, with the labor specialization, an explosion of complexity happened, and some sort of quantum leap needed to happen. Here humanity invented an incredible technology: the writing, that allowed to escape from oral proximity, from oral tradition, to evolve towards big civilizations. Egyptian civilization, Mesopotamian, Chinese, Mayan, etc. Each time, we see this same structure constituted with casts. A living God at the top, and below the high priesthood and nobility. Below, the artisans, the merchants, and below again we find farmers and herders. And at the very bottom, a mass, open to ruthless exploitation, slaves, villains, Untouchables, etc.

Of course it has evolved. Nowadays we wouldn’t represent it this way: a large company works with a board of directors. So we see small groups of original collective intelligence. Then they organize themselves in pyramid, with departments, services, etc. And who has never experienced the silos effect in large companies?

Speaking of strength and weaknesses, the great strength of pyramidal collective intelligence, comes from its capacity to put together thousands and even millions of people.

In the music realm, we see this great strength in a symphonic orchestra. A couple of days ago, when I prepared my slides, my son told me: “Dad, I can draw what you can’t find on the Net” I wanted to see a chief orchestra, he did this. So thanks to him, thanks to Estéban. He really understood the concept.

The strengths and weaknesses of this pyramidal collective intelligence, we hit them hard today, I think this image shows it well, the one of the Titanic or a big liner. The strength, we can also find it in the image… Here we have an extraordinary technology, that drives and transports people, a great number of people from one corner of the planet to the other. At the same time, an error in the command, or a criminal intent, and it can turn into a catastrophe.

It shows that pyramidal collective intelligence has a very very low resilience. If something does wrong in the head, everything can collapse.

It has a poor adaptability too. It knows very well how to develop processes, repeat them, repeat them in advance, but if later some change occurs, it doesn’t operate well.

We find ourselves confronted to a shift, a necessity, facing a wall of complexity that obliges us to reinvent ourselves. So what happens?

Well, we enter, fully, inside a new form of collective intelligence that we call holomidal. Holomidal, from “holos” — holistic, Here, you see this picture of the Internet that I like very much, a little old already, how servers connect with one another. It emerges. No one organizes it top down. It emerges and it self-organizes. We find this structure in a forest too, under our feet, the rhizome. Same thing, same structure. In our brain too. And now, as you know, we have social networks everywhere.

All the social fabric self-organizes itself and we find again the advantages of pyramidal collective intelligence –involving many people– however coming with the resilience and self-organizing capacity of original collective intelligence. It adapts itself, it learns fairly well, it reconfigures all the time, it organizes itself into semantic tribes, etc, etc.

So, knowing that, we can easily get, hence our coming together to look at it, that a dramatic transition has begun. From now on I could talk about what will happen, 3D printers for instance. A great deal of industrial production, centralized, pyramidal, will become completely distributed. I could also talk about the end of money and the rise of post-monetary society, because if we want to transition from an competition-based economy to a mutualistic economy, then we can’t use anymore this old technology called money. We will have much more powerful tools!

But for now, I would like to talk about the inner aspect of the self. The most difficult thing that I feel passionate about, that makes me wonder almost 24/7… How will a human being experience existence inside himself in the coming years?

To address this question, let’s take an example: social codes. More precisely, I will put my focus on social codes we use for conversation. When we speak, when we have, a conversation around the table, or a political debate, what happens? First thing we notice, people speak right after another, very very quick. No space for silence, and no space for breathing time. Furthermore, we interrupt one another. Believe it or not, I see it in most cultures. Not all of them, but globally people interrupt one another. It means, if I interrupt someone, that what I want to say has more importance than what the person in front of me has to say.

Now let’s imagine, let’s place ourselves in a new situation, we change the following social code: we don’t take the floor anymore unless we have done a long breath before. Imagine inside yourself, if you began to do that, the consequences that it would have for the collective, if a collective starts doing that, at your work, in your family, and if you begin to do this as a practice. Imagine the consequences that this sole change of social code can have, a long breath before speaking.

When I give seminars, and I ask the participants what benefits we would have if we breath? Everyone knows! It allows an inner connection with ourself, it brings peace, if gives perspective, it opens to the feeling of our emotions, our body, it offers an inner reconnection. It allows to feel the other, to sense the group, and the emotions that want to rise. It also invites inspiration. Breathing means expiring and therefore ‘inspiring’.

However we don’t do it. Why don’t we do it? Why? Because of a signature behind all this speed during the flow of words we have in conversations. The mental comes into the play. Pyramidal collective intelligence, the world of pyramidal collective intelligence invented, developed, over-developed the mental, the conceptual view. The mental operates very fast. It runs very very fast. It speaks very fast, and it knows very well how to maintain its own paradigm. Escaping a paradigm requires we deactivate the mental. This breathing can become a full meditation.

I have trained lot’s of people to breathing techniques, not just individuals, but collectives too, including companies. Everyone of them, without exception, told me: “it changed our vision of the world“, “it changed my relationship with myself, my relationship with others“, “we don’t make the same decisions together“, “we don’t see the world the same way“, “our whole company, our whole strategy have changed“.

Notice I don’t speak about millions of $ to invest in R&D. I just talk about breathing.

This breathing brings us to this question of personal change, and how we perceive ourselves from the inside, how it will evolve, with, now, an essential question, indeed, about the perception of ourselves.

So let’s imagine ourselves in the dark, inside a forest, and I will finish on that. I turn my flashlight on, And now I begin to scan my environment with it, Here I see a tree, there I see a rock… By directing the beam in different directions I can now decide where to make my next steps. Doing so, I build a kind of reality of proximity.

The mental operates exactly like this. A beam that sees parts and connects them with one another, and thanks to this, I can walk. It works not so bad… Now if I turn my flashlight off, and I decide allow the night light to infuse me, light from the stars, from the moon, then something else happens. First I accustom myself. I lose the precise details of my immediate environment while a much vaster reality begins to open itself to me.

All the people who open themselves this way will have their own words to express this. I like to use the word “transrational”. Transrational happens when we go beyond the rational. Indeed, we still have the rational at our disposal, I can still turn my flashlight on again, always. And at any time I can turn if off too, and open myself to a vaster reality.

This vaster reality can also come from changing some social codes. Back to social codes, and back to the breathing we did together at the start. So, as I said, evolution will not occur only by means of 3D printers or the Internet… yes, quite interesting, go and see, you will learn tons of things, at the same time I invite you to think about what will change inside you, through social codes, ontology, language structure, through our postures, our relationship to our body…

In the end, who knows if the next humanity doesn’t stand just one breath away.

Thank you!

This page gathers two talks I gave during Centifolia in 2011 and 2013. Both of them explain in detail the meaning and consequences of Beauty, Goodness, Truth, and integral wealth, and how it can lay the foundation of our future economy.

This first conference “Beauty, Goodness & Truth, a Path to the Perfect Product” explains the founding role of these 3 primary values in our ontological structures, and how they will become founding leverages for organizations that want to evolve towards integral wealth and transcultural models (that transcend and overcome cultural walls, while integrating diversity).

This second conference provides us with a language to describe integral wealth: movable, measurable, rankable, and acknowledgeable. It lays the foundations for technological design.

Perfumed questions

Fleur CentifoliaCentifolia 2013, “The Riches of a Product”, focuses on radical innovation. It feels quite normal that people from this sector ask questions sourced from their paradigm, and wait for responses intended to match this same paradigm. Hence my attempt to address a list of corporate questions sent by some leaders, and to answer from the new paradigm. A somehow perilous exercise that creates lots of shortcuts if we want to stick to short answers.

Don’t hesitate, dear reader, to share your feelings and your own questions.

We observe falling perfume sales. How can we enhance consumers’ desire again?

Behind its apparent simplicity, this single question contains multiple questions. Let’s begin with the consumer notion, which points to a dying paradigm. This term evokes a big voracious mouth that swallows, absorbs and consumes anything we send into it right after we triggered some desire. Although we will witness the flourishing of new consumers in BRICS countries, this word, consumer, will more and more lose its meaning. Tomorrow people will want to work on their individual fragrance. How can they have a pleasant smell, for themselves and for others? For this they will connect to their tribes via social media. They will ask for coaching, for an experience with perfumers rather than trying to look like such or such star or belong to a market segment. They will want a dialog. The role of perfumers will consist in coaching individuals and tribes through their journey. It will require constant interaction. We leave industrial models behind to enter in the dynamics of the experience economy. The latter uses rich mechanisms of regulation/response, those that we find today on the Net via social media and gamification.

Blame the consumer

Let’s pursue the question linked to “perfume”. What we call a perfume today comes as an industrial and packaged product. Once more, it embodies all the vision of consumerism built by mass industry. Tomorrow, olfactive consciousness will reappear thanks to personal development that more and more people engage themselves in. Perfumers will become those who enchant cities, who offer an olfactive soul to public and private spaces, who help organizations and people in discovering their fragrances, fluctuating through time and moods. From dynamics built on conformism and belonging, perfume will become a language again.

What is a conscious market?

A conscious market has the faculty to understand and envision the meaning of its actions, and their consequences. In a conscious market, people direct their purchases not anymore on the sole quality-price ratio (industrial age and consumerism), but on a set of multidimensional wealth criteria such as environment, health, sustainability, natural products, GMOs, organic growth, fairness, respect of animal, ecological footprint, ethical behavior, craft, AOC, etc.

The economic landscape has just started to understand this multidimensionality of wealth which still remains in a wild state, without homogeneous information and identification. This will soon evolve. Methodologies allowing to visualize integral wealth like the ones developed by the CIRI, or certifications like B-Corp, offer promising progress.

How to crack the next business model ?

Coupons - cartoonThe question, as formulated, falls in the old paradigm and perpetuates it. We can already abandon the term “business model” to talk about “wealth model”. This opens an entirely new and promising path.

We cannot answer quickly such a rich question, however we can say that wealth models in the future will operate on the experience economy, social media, and conscious markets. Most big company leaders don’t have any awareness of this today. Sadly this will have a dramatic impact on their enterprise. Thanks to its commitment to radical innovation, Centifolia will open these new horizons to whoever wants to look at them.

How can we promote co-creation in pyramidal organizations?

Because of their very structure, pyramidal organizations generate an intrinsic limit to co-creation because they rely on inherent scarcity mechanisms, written in their DNA. Scarcity of money, scarcity of leading positions, a territorial view of reality, an asymmetry of relationships, and chains of command that limit access to crucial information. All these forces oppose   co-creation. A pyramidal organization can admittedly reach a certain level of co-creation — recent organizations like Google or Apple demonstrate it — but it remains way below what we might yet achieve.

Once more, the answer to this question implies an evolution of the very structure, from pyramidal to holomidal. A utopia? Of course not! We just need to observe the collaboration and mutualistic economy rapidly expanding on the Net to get a concrete sense (recognizing these just as first steps of this phenomenon). Some keywords: clouds of people, tribes, distributed networks, communityware, social media, leadership, accountability, digital self, conversations, crowd sourcing, cross-pollination… Furthermore we can notice that co-creation happens more outside conventional enterprises than inside.

Companies will evolve when they understand that co-creation and innovation happen more in the social engineering side than anything else.

How can we manage a global brand and remain close to the local customer?

To do this, we have to understand the experience economy, conscious markets, the leverages of integral wealth, crowd sourcing. These social dynamics operate quite differently from consumerism and industrial processes. Only a very few large companies have understood and integrated this today. They would just have to hire a good pioneering team and they give them carte blanche to create a brand that works on these dynamics. A rather small investment compared to the returns in teachings and a potential success. That said, the very notion of “customer”, that involves a supplier or a service provider, will transform too. Clients will fully enter in product and services conception processes of the future.

Is a multicultural product possible?

The conference on the fractal way to look at the world will demonstrate that multicultural products will thrive and will become a major strategic axis, as we cannot think in geopolitical and socioeconomic blocks anymore. Bruno Marion will explain that less difference exists between a 25 years old Chinese and a 25 years old Britisher, than exist between their parents.

How can we innovate (formulas, packs, labeling) in an increasingly constraining regulatory framework that impose longer and longer development plans?

Pyramidal collective intelligence enterprises will find themselves more and more helpless facing this increasing complexity. They have to evolve towards holomidal collective intelligence, distributed, hyper-connected, super-learning, capable of overcoming these limitations.

Does customer experience take precedence on the product benefit and the brand?

One cannot enclose our focus on experience to the client anymore. We must extend it to the whole chain of people who developed the product or service. An experience that reflects itself from people to people. In a conscious market, a client in London wants to know what a salaried person in China lives like, and a manufacturer in Madrid cannot ignore anymore the life conditions of an indigenous community that provides raw material. Therefore we want to embrace experience in its whole spectrum over the entire chain of value creation. There we fully enter the experience economy! An ecosystem of people capable of perceiving each other, a whole that becomes aware of itself… this liberates economic and operational capacities that overrun the ego-centered enterprise from the industrial age.

How can we sell an invisible wealth in current circuits?

First let’s understand that only a minority of the immense spectrum of wealth fits into what can be sold. Do we sell a quality of air, health, biodiversity, joy, trust, a know-how, a label, a reputation? We can measure some of these forms of wealth (quality of air, biodiversity, physiological health…), while others come from an experience we acquire subjectively that we can then express verbally (psychological health, joy, trust…). These forms of wealth cannot materially “circulate” inside a product we purchase. This rightly leads again to the experience economy. In this context, the product doesn’t represent the goal anymore, but a catalyst that triggers a chain of experiences between the people who design and the people who use. In this human network, people communicate and dialog via social media and communityware. Feedback loops operate everywhere, beforehand during the conception phase of a product, during its use phase, until its end. The famous “Cluetrain manifesto” had already foreseen this phenomenon in 1999, in its famous quote “markets are conversations“.

Can we be value driven and generate optimal profits?

Margin improvementWe cannot raise this question without including the time variable in it. On the short term, we often get that we can obtain higher margins if we put aside a certain number of values. On the middle and longer term, experience has proven exactly the opposite. It becomes even more true in the Internet age, where transparency becomes almost impossible to avoid. Conscious markets will increasingly punish the lack of transparency. Many brands have already experienced this, and this trend will just increase.

Making profits that rely on strong negative externalities (make others pay the harm we cause on the environment or on populations) has a boomerang systemic impact that will result in pay back someday or another. How long will civil society put up with paying negative externalities created by companies, in a time when we can almost trace everything?

Finally, as we shared in other responses, we must now evolve into wealth assessment and not just financial balance sheets. Financial profits will remain an important component, just like the arterial pressure in the body, but it will come in a multidimensional space of wealth, much more evolved and efficient for companies’ strategic evolution.

How can we maintain competitive margins by selling “made in France” products?

Made in France - FemaleIn regards to margins, the previous question offered an answer. Let’s focus on the “made in France” part. The “Made in France” label offers the opportunity to convey specific values leading to integral wealth that widely go beyond the sole quality-price ratio in which exhaustion awaits everyone. Rather than competing for the exclusive cost reduction of labor, we should rather develop our creativity on integral wealth that the “Made in France” label can embody and carry. This happens through the development of charters enhancing integral wealth that coordinate with the holistic steering of future economic systems. The State has definitely an important role to play in this process. Here again the research work of CIRI should help go in this direction.

What story telling for a product X sold on the other side of the planet?

“Story telling” represents an attempt, often clumsy, to link integral wealth to a product, as we instinctively know that any story and any myth creates such forms of wealth. Story telling has a role to play, but it must also incarnate something deeply reflected upon and tangible. Here and there we see many myths pulled out of the air.

In a time of globalization, our actions need to become driven by universal values. Do such universal values exist? Yes, they do! We have covered this essential fact during a Centifolia 2013 conference, on Beauty, Goodness and Truth, the primary values. The latter offer a way to coordinate added value circles by linking diverse cultures and segments of humanity. This works for story telling too, that must carry Beauty, Goodness and Truth.

How can a conventional company, used to dealing with “markets”, evolve towards the new forms you describe?

Rather than torture ourselves in launching heavy change management programs that generally give poor results with colossal investments, we should better invest in a startup, or a small team of pioneers to whom we provide all necessary means to launch and work for the time necessary.

We should not think of these new holomidal collective intelligence organizations as we do classic companies from which we ask a quick ROI in pure cash. These new collectives operate through integral wealth, they transform the whole economic ecosystem and co-evolve with it. Supporters of these new company species should learn how it works and open their mind to these new paradigms.

How can we face the shortage of raw material?

Buffalo ShortageLet’s first clarify what we call “shortage”. Natural shortage exists, because of the natural scarcity of an ingredient, because of climate issues, etc. Then we have situational shortages, essentially linked to market laws and competition. We cannot address these two shortages in the same manner. For natural shortage, we have collective intelligence techniques at our disposal that allow us to optimize the distribution and repartition, following agreed rules among every player, and not just the purchasers. As for situational shortage, it invites us to examine the human contexts that provoke them: the market and its laws, and the outcomes provoked by this technology called “money”. Today, the market looks like the only known means for the circulation of material wealth, and money its unique technology. Yet today we have tools at our disposal made to build economic ecosystems that operate in a much more powerful and efficient way than markets. Once actual economic players will have drained their own forces, and the ones of the environment through ferocious competition, they will begin to show interest in these new tools and methodologies. Unless others have done it before them. A space like Centifolia-Centisophia opens our sight in the direction of these new horizons.

How can we move between the different regulations that exist between Europe (REACH) and the other countries?

The very principle of “regulation” belongs to a specific form of collective intelligence: the pyramidal one. This latter builds itself around centralized power, chains of command, scarce money, competition. Individual and collective behaviors get contained by laws and regulations that operate in an exogenous way, from the outside. Until these laws have come into a written form, everything remains allowed. We just have to look at all the moral and ethical abuses that perpetuate themselves in the world until some laws and regulation come to contain them. It looks even more insidious when these damages come from collective emergence while no one, individually, has made a legal or moral transgression. Once more it reminds us the deep stakes of collective intelligence.

Evolution leads us to ask the following question to ourselves: do endogenous dynamics exist? Dynamics that emerge from the inside of the collective, that generate virtuous behaviors that don’t need external regulation anymore (those regulations that will always infinitely complexify themselves). Such collectives pop up everywhere. They move in contexts that have more complexity than exogenous regulations (that become useless). Let’s draw a parallel with driving, with the difference between an eco-centered driver that commits all possible abuses if we don’t place signals and controls everywhere, and a responsible, sensitive, adaptable driver, capable of driving very well with no signs, simply because his conscience, therefore its potential for action, has more vastness. The discipline of collective intelligence shows us the emergence of these conscious organizations. On the one hand they hit the wall of infinite regulatory complexity, but on the other their endogenous collective consciousness open new possibilities that conventional legal systems cannot understand or embrace. We enter into juridic voids that current paradigms cannot understand, just like religious dogma in the past had the capacity to arbitrate the scientific method.

How to approach BRICS countries that move from suppliers to consumers?

BRICS mapWe have enough studies that show that evolution can only happen by repeating the whole sequence, one step after the other. A human being, from his/her first particles up to its stem cells and then a fully formed body, sees the whole history of the universe playing again in him/her, in an accelerated way. Collectives work the same: they can’t skip any single step of the ladder. BRICS countries, like other countries that preceded them, like the countries that will follow them, go through the phases of high industrialization — mostly manufacturing — followed by high tech, the tertiary sector, and consumerism. It doesn’t solely apply to economic models, but also to paradigms and ways to see the world. However we already see the rise of post-industrial tendencies in these countries, even in a marginal scale. Yet different things vary. On one side, because of systemic constraints of the planet, the consumeristic phase should have a much shorter life. Then, Internet, that makes culture, values and behaviors interpenetrate, generates a fractal world in which we cannot think through big geopolitical blocks. A conference given by Bruno Marion will cover this point quite precisely. He will offer tools to build strategies that follow this evolution.

What about the lack of transparency in the exchanges within current transactions models?

Tranparency concealmentThis lack of transparency benefits some –because it exists– at the expense of others. It takes place in a paradigm where the enterprise only sees its own interest in an ego-centered collective psyche (meaning focused on itself), just like children or limbic brain forms of life do (birds, mammals…). Because they want to maximize their profits within classic market laws, few collectives have, until now, known how to develop and act upon a holistic consciousness of the world, while more and more people can do it individually. A group of conscious individuals doesn’t make a conscious collective. We call this the “tragedy of the commons“, a well explored phenomenon in sociology, economy and game theory.

Today we have the means to create super-conscious, holistic enterprises. They no longer rest on pyramidal collective intelligence anymore, but on holomidal collective intelligence. It represents an evolution for our species. Nothing theoretical here: everywhere we see such organizations flourish via the Internet. It turns out that classical companies don’t understand and don’t see them, just like the caterpillar doesn’t understand or see the butterfly. These new holomidal organizations operate on tools, methodologies and technologies partially borrowed from pyramidal CI, but diverted from their original use. We give the name socialware or communityware  to these online software that allow such collectives to navigate, do their governance, build a collective memory, develop a mutualistic economy rather than a competitive one, collect knowledge, etc. Today conventional companies should support these new holomidal organizations. The success of the latter will provoke a migration flow of people who want to evolve, and to hand over to the next generation. We can do it in perfect harmony. CIRI develops the processes and methodologies to facilitate this movement.

What should we do about the impact of our practice on the environment (use of natural resources that belong to all)?

The answer to this question appears in the previous question. The use we make of resources mostly depends on the consciousness behind it. It works for individuals as well as for collectives. An ego-centered consciousness doesn’t make the same choices, and doesn’t see the world in the same way as a world-centered consciousness, especially in the case when individual advantage in the short term conflicts with collective advantage in the long run.

The use of strategic compasses such as Truth, Goodness and Beauty allow the making of enterprises that act not only consciously, but in a much more efficient, resilient, learning and rich way compared to conventional companies. Centifolia will cover this intensively.

Globalization favors the abandonment of local food-producing. What she we do?

We will reverse this trend when we have developed tools that allow the vizualisation of integral wealth. By this we mean all aspects of wealth: material and immaterial, exchangeable, measurable, acknowledgeable. The quality of environment, trust, joy, education, biodiversity embody many forms of wealth that belong to humanity’s dreams. Any logic that excludes these riches in its reasoning dooms itself. The market and its underlying technology –money– embody this logic of non-integral wealth. They don’t have, in their structure, the means to blend in and develop integral wealth. Who has already seen a corporate balance sheet built on integral wealth?

Organizations that will develop themselves around integral wealth will show an extraordinary capacity to include the needs of populations and ecosystems in their way of working, because of simple pragmatic reasons. Local food-producing should grow again once this transition has happened. No science fiction here. We see this new DNA sprouting almost everywhere! New labelling processes offer quite a visible example. We will see an example of it with B-Corporation, whose their representatives will come to talk during Centifolia.

From Centifolia to Centisophia

Two years ago I participated in the making of an event called Centifolia (scheduled late Oct. 2011). This event gathered players in the perfumes & cosmetics industry in the city of Grasse, South of France, known as the world capital of perfume.

What did I do in such an event, and what interest should I have in this sector of the economy?

First, my co-creative partners and I had 100% freedom to design the event in order to increase its collective intelligence. Second, the perfumes & cosmetics sector, that many people consider as superficial and useless, occupies in reality an important place in our everyday life, and in the economy in general. Indeed, viral ideas and collective intelligence actions can potentially provoke an inspiring and leveraging wave, in this sector as well as in other sectors. Yummy! So we played.

Lipstick - Gustavo RodriguezLipstick and gloss?

Many people, specially among the cultural creatives and generation Y part of society, have a negative and alienated understanding of the perfumes & cosmetics sector. They see it as lipstick and gloss. Wrong. Cosmetics go from make-up to toothpaste, sunblock, shampoo and soap. You can define it as any product that comes in contact with your body. Cosmetics have always existed and will always exist.

Important to know: heavy weights in this industry don’t just do “perfumes” and “cosmetics”. Take a look at P&GGivaudanFirmenich or IFF… These guys also play in the flavors & fragrance field. They decide how our food, our drink or our detergent will smell and taste (well, you don’t want to taste the detergent).

That said, this industrial sector (like so many others) shows quite some alarming facts:

  • Some products come from the extraction or exploitation of natural resources from all around the world. In many cases it affects ecosystems and hurts local populations (farmers, indigenous people…) who often operate under the control of local mafia. Child labor, degrading working conditions and wage slavery appear as common cases, from India to Haiti, from Australia to Madagascar.
  • Some products affect our health
  • Some products affect the environment (packaging, chemicals…)
  • Some products rely on animal testing

On a more systemic and global point of view, humanity has built its economies with a scarce monetary system called “money”. Scarce money provokes an incentive to “hunt” for… money. Such an activity requires the laying of “money traps” everywhere. Many, if not most, products on the market have this unique function of attracting this scarce money. We find no humanistic goal, no spiritual value, no healing function whatsoever, although these products do claim to serve a need. Therefore in many cases the making of a product comes with the making of a need. The products create the need, and not the opposite. To do so, the use of manipulation, temptation and lies to create the need have become a common and accepted practice, regardless the systemic consequences or the moral issues. This mechanism induced by a scarce monetary system leads to consumerist societies and consumption based economies.

Supermarkets and TV commercials offer a good observation field. We see in a live way how lie and manipulation principles operate.

Enter in any supermarket, observe and ask yourself how many products have a real humanistic, environmental or spiritual function? How many products provoke an immediate stimulus (pleasure), and how many trigger a genuine happiness?  You will likely conclude that humanity could thrive and have its highest needs served without most of the products aligned in the aisles. Also take a look at the packaging… the messages, the flashy colors, the subliminal words and images, the chosen spots in the store… Does it speak to your higher self or does it titillate your reptilian brain?

Watching mainstream tvWatch TV commercials, and count the number of mind-numbing and debilitating messages. Observe how they manipulate, how they trigger the most basic drives in human psyche (hunger, sexual desire, etc) or invoke the highest spiritual values (freedom, self-realization…). This dynamics, now fed with more and more neuromarketing data, institutionalizes a societal practice of lies and manipulation. “This cream will make you look 20 years younger“, “this toothpaste will give you a Hollywood smile“, “this soap will make women happier“, “this shampoo will make you look like a star“, etc.

Neither blaming and censoring the big brands, nor doing social activism against them will escape the whole system I just sketched. Only a global, distributed, systemic, innovative response can transcend it. Rather than becoming more terrifying players inside the current rules, why don’t we change the rules themselves and play a much funnier game?

Hence, the way we consider health and well-being can evolve. The way we define wealth can evolve. The way we trade with one another can evolve. The way we create economic ecosystems and currencies can evolve. Entrepreneurship can evolve. Information transparency can evolve. The whole game can evolve. It just takes a handful of committed visionary people who decide to play in another field and to show that they definitely have much more fun there.

What happened in Centifolia 2011?

So, back to Centifolia 2011… This event swirled around the idea of the “Perfect Product”. A perfect product embodies and manifests Beauty, Goodness and Truth, which we call universal primary values (like primary colors). Hence this conference that I gave (see below). In a nutshell it says that from this universal human value system called “Beauty, Goodness and Truth” we can build new, juicy, generous, innovative, sustainable businesses that support the emergence of conscious markets.

And if you feel like exploring a little more, you may watch this conference called “Our Species Evolves, and You?” I gave it for the opening of Centifolia. It explores some of the current trends of our society: where do markets go? Why do they become “conscious”? What any CEO should know today (that about 100% of them don’t even suspect)? What opportunities do we have ahead of us?

Centifolia 2013: “The Wealth of a Product”

From Wed. Oct. 23 6pm to Friday Oct. 25 2pm

Many congresses, fairs, shows, conferences and conventions talking about perfumes & cosmetics happen during the year in different places of the world. Well, Centifolia 2013 will NOT look like any of these events. On the contrary. So I should make myself very clear here: people who want to do business as usual won’t find any interest in attending Centifolia 2013.

Fleur CentifoliaThis year’s theme?  The Wealth of a Product.

Check the official website.

What?

What wealth can a product really create, provoke, attract? In this context, we use the word wealth in its broadest and deepest sense. Wealth as for value creation, benefits, satisfaction, health, environment, society, entrepreneurship, joy, relationships, trust, interconnectedness, universal values… In 3 words: Beauty, Goodness and Truth. We call it integral wealth.

On the societal side, can we imagine products that don’t create winners on one side and losers on the other side? Usually the “losers” side includes the environment, indigenous populations, and the society at large (alienation, consumerism…). Sellers and buyers (not always) compose the “winners” side. Actually, not true indeed for the winners’ side: from a systemic perspective, everyone loses. It just depends on which scale of time we look at these things. Only conscious markets can attract and sustain these no losers enterprises. Good news: conscious markets grow everywhere, mostly throughout the Internet. We will make a clear demonstration of this evolution during the event.

We can then ask the following questions:

  • What kind of organization does it take to enter in conscious market’s ecosystem?
  • How do we create a no losers company?
  • Where do we start from now?
  • What can conventional companies do in order to evolve?

We will address these questions through conferences and interactive spaces.

Who?

We will invite speakers that play at every levels of the chain of value creation. From indigenous producers to R&D, from purchasers to recyclers, from marketing & sales to final client, from CEOs to noses (well, not just the nose, but also the person following it)… Even more: we want to hear the voices of society and the environment. Both have amazing insights and value proposition for tomorrow’s markets.

This web of experiences will help everyone build a holistic understanding of the current human ecosystem of the sector. And when an ecosystem becomes conscious, extraordinary evolutionary capacities begin to manifest.

How?

On the methodological side, we will implement different spaces that trigger collective intelligence, creativity, consciousness, entrepreneurship. This includes:

  • TED like conferences: short, innovative, with super-prepared Ninja keynote speakers. They will inspire us with their stories and experience (check Centifolia 2011 conferences to get a sense of it)
  • World Cafés: one of the most efficient way to connect while enhancing collective intelligence in the room
  • Circles: to build a sense of the collective and see what wants to emerge
  • Informal time: to give space to the unexpected and the invisible
  • Delicious meals: to celebrate and enjoy each other’s presence with organic food (of course )
  • Online spaces: to invite global collective intelligence and connect with the world
  • Medias: to film, interview, collect experiences and insights
  • Graphic facilitation and cartooning: because no one can seriously create and innovate without them
  • Art, music, fun, humor: because we don’t want our right brain to look like a raisin

Our highest expectation? That attendees leave Centifolia with thriving ideas, innovative concepts, new connections, an open and exciting vision of possible futures, a joyful and concrete sense of no losers businesses.

Centisophia comes as an obvious next step.

Centisophia, the next step for pioneers!

Friday Oct. 24 afternoon – Saturday Oct. 25 evening

Centifolia, we talked. Centisophia, we do.

It will gather people who want to move on, people who want their hands on innovative projects that embody the visions shared in Centifolia. People with a pioneering drive.

Harry Atwood in Wright Brothers AirplaineThese pioneers want to operate via the next forms of collective intelligence (we call it holomidal collective intelligence), that have a much higher capacity for innovation, learning, decision making, resilience, anticipation, and wisdom-driven action. Attendees feel an irresistible attraction for integral business models and conscious markets. They come to share their direct experience and unveil concrete visionary projects, existing or future ones.

Centifolia had open doors for everyone, Centisophia will require candidates to apply for their participation. We expect motivated people and we want to make sure that everyone has a clear understanding about the objectives of the event. The applicant’s social status (global CEO or humble entrepreneur) doesn’t play any role here. Only motivation and open-mindedness count.

In regards to designing our interaction spaces, we will continue with the same dynamics as during Centifolia, but in a more advanced way. Our spaces will become super interactive. We will also play with new ways to engage with one another in order to harness our creativity.

The outcomes? It depends 100% on participants. For knowing a number of them personally, I can tell how motivated they feel and the senior experience they have. Some of them had global CEO positions in the old economy, today they decided to play like young excited teenagers in the new economy. I like it.

If I had to describe Centisophia in a few keywords? Out of the box, provoking, inspiring, outstanding, pioneering, a space of its own, business not as usual, collective intelligence, conscious markets, integral wealth, next opportunities…

Please drop me a line if you feel like playing !

Collective Intelligence Meetings in Auroville

In the next 2 weeks of my stay at Auroville, I will facilitate a series of meetings for sharing and building some practical reflection about collective intelligence, wisdom and consciousness. Morning meetings invite us in the body, afternoon meetings offer a space for dialog. No agenda, no goal, no predefined outcome. No matter what events you decide to attend, be punctual if you want to participate. Late comers can only attend as passive listeners. These spaces will happen in English, unless another language like French or Spanish gets chosen by the participants.

Bring your wonder, your joy, your smile and playfulness!

All these events will take place at the Unity Pavilion, next to Savitri Bhavan. Morning body play take place behind the buildings, afternoon dialogs happen inside the left building.

Body Wisdom Play

Playing kittensWe will practice many playful exercises based on martial arts. Why martial arts? Because they place us in a flow of dynamic physical forces and flows in which our most vital and basic instincts get invoked and put under light. What cultural, transgenerational and belief systems operate through our moves? Which ones do we want to get rid of? How do we deal with them? What kind of body language do we want to cultivate, or even invent, as an act of self-creation? These exploratory exercises will allow us to observe ourselves, learn from one another, and invite wisdom to operate through our bodies, individually and collectively.

When they play, children engage their whole body and all their strength. Like them we will do joyful and intensive efforts. Bring your inner child, your playfulness and wonder!

Dialogs

6_principles_255x326-5Wisdom driven or supramental dialog cannot emerge from conventional social codes. Therefore we will play with another set of social codes called “The 6 Agreements”. We will use these agreements as a practical leverage to catalyze higher collective potentials.

We will welcome what emerges. We will embrace our learning edges, our frustrations as well as our breakthroughs, our limitations as well as unexpected treasures. Any topic can nourish the dialogs.

Collective intelligence day

Arabesque

During this whole day we will travel through collective intelligence in a deeper way. Building new societies and new collectives requires new language, new methodologies, new technologies. We will have an overlook at them through conversations, body play and practical workshops. Again, invite your wonder and your inner child!

Time travel from the post-monetary society

I received an invitation to speak in front of 600 people who have decision making positions in their organizations. This event takes places in Toulouse, South of France, 4th of December 2012, and has the name of “Nuit des Réseaux” — something like “the Networks Night” in English. My talk will not look like a usual conference because I will come from… the future. I will tell how society evolved by freeing itself from money. I come as a witness and a teller. I meet a new exercise here, it feels attractive and confronting me to the unknown. Unknown within myself as I don’t know much about my skills as a teller (I have no practice of it), unknown because of the challenge I undertake, as I have not heard whatsoever of anyone telling the post-monetary society live on stage before. I feel vulnerable dealing with this new way of inviting hearts and minds to open towards such sensitive topics.

Of course I feel infused with many ideas and visualisations about how this post-monetary world will look like. However these intuitions represent only a tiny portion of what matures in the collective already. This post-monetary society has already begun its birth process (many signs can be observed), therefore it already exists as a potential, in dreams, images, concepts, deep inside many minds although they may not have a full awareness of it yet. I would like to harvest some of these fragments of visions, ideas, concepts…

Below you will find a short text that sets the scene and the context. Precise questions follow. If you feel answers, images, ideas, concepts sprouting in your mind (or within your toes, any place feels good), then don’t hesitate: share them! Doing so you will contribute, like many others, to sculpt reality with the hand of our dreams. As always we will realise that the so called reality plays as a mirror that reflects our games as artists and infinite creators.

Imagine humanity has evolved into a post-monetary society. Successive worldwide economic crisis from the past ended up demonstrating that the technology called money, which worked for thousands of years, no longer served the needs of human society. Money caused unprecedented humanitarian and ecological catastrophes, and humankind almost went extinct. The whole humanity had no other option than to shift from competition to mutualism, from consumerism to co-creation. Economy no longer restricts itself to Humans, it now includes the other living species that live in inter-creation on the planet. Thus, in today’s society we build, exchange, rank and measure wealth in a very different way that we did in the past. We use systems and technologies that allow us to see and sense the whole spectrum of what we call integral wealth.

  1. What happens in everyday life? Can you imagine stories about people, human societies and collectives in different parts of the world?
  2. What technologies do you see at use? What do they look like?
  3. What key events from the past lead to the post-monetary society?

I asked the questions above in Quora, you just have to click on them to see them there, and you will likely read some answers from other inspired persons. You can also decide to share your thoughts here by posting a comment.

Let our dreams play!

My trip to the US – May 24th to July 7th 2012

This post is about planning and updating this month and a half trip to the US. Therefore this page will be regularly updated.

Main intentions about this trip

  1. Retreat for writing (just like the 2 months spent in Mexico mid-Feb – mid-April 2012)
  2. Being with my beloved brothers Eric Harris-Braun and Art Brock to continue conspiring on MetaCurrency and the post monetary society
  3. Meetings related to current ongoing projects
I will try to keep the meetings part low so that I can really honor intentions 1 & 2. I want to remain fully open, generative, completely creative so that flows of next reality can continue being woven from that inner weaving loom

Dates and places

  • May 24 evening – June 1st evening: NYC
    • A friend of mine offered me his apartment to stay in NYC but he had a last minute change, so it doesn’t work anymore. I finally found a wonderful place, 1/2 block away from Central Park on Madison and 106th Street.
    • Meetings with some amazing human beings. Each of them would deserve a special post to share about who they are.
    • A special event where my friend Christian Courtin-Clarins invited me: the Clarins Million Meals Concert for Feed. Here’s an article in the Huffington Post written by Lauren Bush, the founder of Feed. It will be interesting for me to observe the multi-facets that characterize such an event, from the darkest to the shiniest sides. I will enjoy opening my being in order to welcome other beings who will be present there, and learn everything possible.
  • June 2nd – 18th: East Chatham, upstate NY, at Eric’s place
    • Writing, metacurrency, sharing wonderful creative space with Eric and Art
  • June 19th afternoon – 20th morning: Montreal
    • Meeting with one of the representatives of UNCBD – United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity
  • June 20th afternoon – 21st afternoon: Minneapolis
    • Meeting with the CEO of an international cosmetics brand
  • June 21st evening – 24th evening: Montreal
    • 3 days to write and be inspired by this amazing city — suggestions welcome, including a place to stay
  • June 25th – July 7: East Chatham, upstate NY, at Eric’s place
    • Writing, metacurrency, sharing wonderful creative space with Eric and Art
  • July 8th: back to France

I may spend a couple of days in Boston to visit people at MIT, depending on how meetings emerge. The goal of these meetings would be to build synergies between CIRI and some research labs at MIT.
